| Phantom Cine v2.012 + FCP 7 [message #880] |

After reading the latest description and bug fixes, I installed v2.012
The plugin introduces Ventian Blind-type lines in Final Cut 7.
I'm using 10.5.8 on a 2 x 3.2GHz Quad Core Intel Xeon with 8GB of RAM.
Using Quicktime player by itself opens and decodes .CINE files without issue.
Any thoughts?
Thank you.

When I open a .cine file in the Phantom player the color is significantly different then when I view it under Glue Tools in QuickTime. Is this based on a limitation of QuickTime to view 16bit data or is it something else entirely?
The most obvious difference in picture is an abundance of noise in the Glue Tools / QuickTime player.
Thanks,
Robin

Hi Everyone,
With the help of a customer, I've pinned down a bug with 8-Core/CPU Macs. I will to get my hands on one of these machines before I can fix the problem. In the meantime, I have created a workaround with the v1.0.2 code. Email support if you run into a banding issue, and you have an 8 Core Mac. I will send you the patched version.
Thanks!

Have been trying to send off a DPX Sequence with Alpha Channel [DPX of a Title Sequence] to be supered in online suite.
The post supervisor has said the online post house needs 16 Bit Linear sequences so he has suggested selecting 10-bit Linear (adj. W & B Points). Unfortunately when we chose the Alpha Channel option of "Save Image with Single RGBA Image Payload" the Conversion setting reverts from 10-bit Linear (adj. W & B Points) to 10-bit Raw Image Data.
Is this because 10-bit Linear (adj. W & B Points) does not support an Alpha Channel? Do Linear DPX Sequences support Alpha Channels? And if so can you please suggest what we may be missing or doing wrong.
BTW I have selected this setting in System Prefs before undertaking the encode out of FCP, FCP using Compressor, and After Effects. All without the desired result. FYI we are also selecting ITU-R BT.709 as the codec for the DPX's
The project is 10 Bit 422 Uncompressed 1280x720 @24, rendering to 10 Bit YUV on FCP Timeline.
The machine we are working from is a 2008 Mac Pro 2 x 3.2 GHz Quad Core Intel Xeon with 10 GB Ram, Kona 3, AJA Control Panel 7.5, OSX 10.6.4, FCS 3, FCP 7.0.2, QuickTime 10 and 7.6.6, and my starsign is Aquarius
I am green with this workflow, but your software seems pretty straight forward if you know what you are after - so please keep this in mind if you need to throttle me.
Your reasonably urgent assistance is greatly appreciate [don't we all want it that quick]... TY

Hallo
We frequently use GlueTools for converting scanned dpx material into Prores files.
The first reel is defined as 01:00:00:00 which is frameno. 90000@25fps and 86400@24fps. The scanner is only set for padding 5 since our infernos and Resolves doesn't accept zeros ahead.
If accessing (25fps) e.g. frame 90000.dpx the conversion stops at 6:40 sec= 99999.dpx. If renaming the first ten thousend frames with a zero ahead(090000-0999999) GlueTools accepts the superseeding material just fine, but this is definately very inconvienient.
Is this behaviour to be considered a bug or does anybody know a better workaround?
Thanks in advance

Hi Everyone,
Some recent developments at Apple's World Wide Developer Conference (WWDC) 2010, I have decided to end support for MacOSX 10.4 Tiger.
While at the show, I have been able to dramatically improve performance, if I use some newer technologies. Unfortunately, to gain this performance, I have to eliminate 10.4 as a supported OS.
The last versions that will support 10.4 are:
CineonDPX v3.0.23
Phantom Cine v2.0.17
ARRIRAW v1.0.6
I will make a link to these versions available under our Archive pages.
Thanks!

I am scanning some s16 material that is in the going to be screened at 2K.
I need to do a crop in post, so I therefore need to scan it in a higher resolution than 2K. Probably 4K or 3K if possible.
Since I don't have a 4K DPX file at hand, and I am having problems making one through Gluetools, I was wondering if anyone have tried this?
The croping will be done in FCP, then export a 2K DPX sequence that I will work further with.
FCP has no problems imorting 4K TIFFs for example, so I guess it would be fine.
But it would be fine to have it confirmed.
And If anyone would happen to have a 4K DPX file, it would be great if you could post it or mail it to me at aspensan@gmail.com
Any input much appreciated!
thanks.

I have a DPX sequence rendered from Color, witch is acting up a bit!
They work fine in color and aja DPX to QT.
But in final cut, when i play the clip it looks like this (See attached picture) and when i pause it goes black. In QuickTime the DPX's won't play back at all.
If i hide final cut and then open it again, the frame looks fine, but then after half a second it turns back as it is on the screen-shot
I have tried turning off "Clone Source Header" in the DPX Export pane, as some post here suggested.
Thanks in advance!

Hi Everyone..
I am interested in working on a multi-language version of the CineonDPX package. If it works out, I will start building other versions of the software.
I hope to add support for German, Italian and French.
Is there anyone out there that would like to volunteer some time to help check that the language translation is correct?
Thanks!
bob.

I can import a group of DPX files to a Quicktime movie, plays fine. Then when I want to export to a DPX sequence with a new Time Code designation, the export starts then delivers error message "Failed: Export process terminated unexpectedly {10}". I'm running Quicktime Player version 7.6.0. I'm running the demo version of Glue Tools DPX and trying to verify it will work before purchase. Am I doing something wrong? I guess I'm surprised no one else has this issue. While the post has been read, no responses. Sure wish I could get this to work.

Anyone had issues with DPX frames rendered out of Nuke not showing header in TC etc in the finder after you "get info" ?
My machine all upto date shows no info.
a machine "apparently" running Tiger and 10.4 works :-/
Any ideas?

Hi Everyone!
Season's Greetings! I hope everyone is enjoying a break from work!
I have updated the CineonDPX package to v3.0.7. This update contains a number of fixes. Here is a list:
- The Cineon/DPX Final Cut Pro importers have been greatly improved. Frame rates are no longer stuck at the previous setting. (Often set to 24fps.)
- When importing a DPX clip that is already in the project, the older clip will be replaced. Settings will be updated as well. (The original behavior was to add another clip)
- Licensing should be considerably more stable and reliable, due to software upgrades provided by the USB Key manufacturer.
- Fixes to Preferences Panel UI
- 23.976/24fps start times are now identical.
- Assorted small bug fixes through out the package.
- minor performance improvements and playback fixes implemented, too.
We are aware of some other issues that are still outstanding with this package. We will try to get them with a future update. Please report any bugs or issues to our support - gluetools.com email address.
Thanks!
bob.

I was wondering if it is possible to create QuickTime reference movies in Final Cut, when using Glue Tools DPX sequences.
One of my colleagues reported much quicker export times in Compressor when running an export from a FCP reference movie, rather than trying to export the sequence through Compressor, while FCP is running. It would be great if I could take advantage of that.
I've tried creating a reference movie several times, but each time the export progress window reports that 14 hours remain (which of course means I'm not saving time). I made sure that the sequence settings match the DPX files - I have no red "render" bar in my sequence, and there is no audio.
Thanks!

Hi
I wanted to point out some export problems we've been having.
1. When exporting from QT to a DPX sequence, the resize function crops the image. It resizes the canvas but not the image essence itself. In compressor the resize seems to work differently. It did resize the video itself but it changes the viewing aspect ratio of the video, stretching it or squeezing. A letter box option would be cool.
2. It appears that when changing the color setting in the export dialog (in QT and in FCP using QT), it has no effect. Only when changing in the system preferences panel it effects the image.
3. Now about exporting from DPX to QT. In compressor, when using a cluster (even a local cluster), I get green (sometimes white) solid frames. When exporting the same movie with the same settings on the local machine (not using a cluster), everything is fine.
Other than that, everything is working nicely with 3.0.5
Thanks,
Oren

Hi Everyone,
I've posted the release version of CineonDPX Pro v3.0.3 for FCS2.
Here are the changes in a nutshell:
- *LOTS* of bug fixes. (Importing problems, frame rate issues, PowerPC problems, etc, have been fixed.)
- A major new feature: Per-Clip Settings. This essentially means that each Cineon or DPX sequence can have its own preferences settings. I will detail how this works a little later on.
- The QuickTime ReelName is now embedded into the DPX header, using the same header location as ARRI.
- Compressor 3 can now export frames into a sub-folder. This sub folder is named using the 'root' file name of the sequence. For example, if I exported a sequence called "MyShot.00001.dpx" the folder would be called "MyShot".
As a result of this update, Final Cut Pro Users will have to take an extra step, after installing this update, in order to get the package to work.
For some, Final Cut Pro will crash as soon as it launched. This crashing is caused by the changes to the "render/proxy movie" format, in the CineonDPX components.
You need to move the scratch folder out of the way, and create a new one.
You can do this my renaming the "Final Cut Pro Documents" folder to something else, and then re-starting FCP. Typically this folder is in the /Users/<your home>/Documents folder, but typically this is moved to the RAID, for better performance. You will need to locate this folder.
Once the folder is moved out of the way, you can start FCP. When Final Cut Pro starts, tell it to create a new folder, and "DO NOT" Reconnect to the original files.
You will then need to re-render the proxy movies.
That will fix the crash.
As always, please let me know of any issues/crashes.
Thanks and Enjoy!

Hi Everyone,
This forum was created to specifically handle questions/comments/bugs about the latest version of the CineonDPX v3.0 for Final Cut Studio 2 package.
The other sections have largely become out-dated as they contain comments and suggestions about older packages.
I encourage you to use this section for anything related to v3.0.
Thanks!

Hi Everyone.
Here is a screen-grab from the Finder in leopard. I have enabled the "Cover flow" ability, so that you can see a separate thumbnail of each DPX frame.
I hope to have v2.5.10 available in a few weeks.

Howdy All.
Version 2.5.1 should be available early next week.
NAB was a great show! We got to meet a lot of current users, and we learned a lot about the way people use our plugins! We have a lot of ideas we want to include, and are working towards making the Cineon/DPX components a great to for editors.
In order to get v2.5.0 ready for NAB, we had to rush development. Due to time contraints, we had to drop features in order to have something available for the show. This release is much more complete, and we hope you people enjoy it.
Here is a short run-down on what this new one can do.
- Multi-CPU decompression.
You can get some pretty nice decompression speeds, in Raw mode, with HD and 720p frames. With the right hardware, you should be able to get great playback performance.
- A complete demo mode for the Final Cut interface.
The v2.5.0 release was rushed to completion for NAB. We simply didn't have time to create a usable demo mode for this new product. With this new version, you will be able to see how the newest release works with Final Cut Pro.
- Anamorphic Scaling
By popular request, we've added the ability to have QuickTime adjust the images to un-sequeeze frames that have been shot with different aspect ratios. The supported ratios include: 1.33, 1.778, 1.85, 2.35, and 2.37
This is a 1.778 High Def frame.

This is the same frame converted to 2.37

- Metadata support for Codex Digital
Codex Digital can generate all kinds of DPX frames. They now have the ability to set up DPX headers with meaningful bits of Meta data! We've worked with them to make it possible to import this data, right into Final Cut Pro.
- Bug fixes
As always, we've hunted down and fixed as many problems as possible.
There are lots of other small improvements, as well.
We should have a new release early next week. For any additional information, please call or email us with your questions.
Thanks!

Hi Everyone.
I am about to start work on a "conform" export ability from Final Cut Pro.
I really don't know what people want, so this is a really good time to make suggestions.
Please drop notes, and examples. Without your feedback, this feature won't be implemented.
Thanks!

Hi everyone..
I've decided to release the new version as v2.5.
Just to show off some of the new abilities, I'm posting some screengrabs.
The first, is a screengrab of the new Final Cut Pro import panel.
Thats right! There is now direct support for DPX (and Cineon) header data, and
final cut's XML file format. When you import a DPX sequence, the file's metadata
will populate various fields in Final Cut Pro.

The next two, are a before and after shot, of the 3DLUT ability.
This ability allows you to apply Luther LUTS to your raw DPX images.
Ideal for those that use the LUT file with cameras such as the Thomson/GV Viper,
etc.

Thats it for now.
Drop a note if you have questions!

Hi everyone..
I am looking into adding Alpha channel support in the next version of the DPX component. The specification can handle Alpha, Z-Depth, and other formats with ease.
I would be interested in hearing from people out there, about their needs, regarding Alpha and Z-Depth information.
Thanks!

Howdy all.
I am in the process of working on V2.0 of the components. It will have a vastly improved import and export capability.
Some new features include:
Cineon/DPX Import:
- Read Timecode from headers
- Load Cineon or DPX frames as a "movie" instead of a range of separate frames. (BIG improvement for Final Cut users!)
- For FCP, you can specify the "Reel" name, or use a header field from the DPX file header.
- Override header information, so that you can choose which colorspace to open an image in. (ie: If the header is set to LOG, but you want to load it as linear, you can override the settings dictated by the header.)
- Choose YCbCr coefficients when loading YUV encoded DPX frames.
- "extremely" limited 2k image playback. (It might be possible do 24fps playback through QuickTime, but you would need a fast set of drives, and a fast computer. This is really nothing more than a side-effect of timecode.
Cineon/DPX Export:
- Write Timecode into headers from Timecode track.
- Save Frames as if it is a "Movie". Exporting a range of separate images isn't necessary, anymore.
- Save as LOG or Linear files, now supported.
- Set Starting Frame number from QuickTime.
- Choose framenumber padding from 4,5 or 6 digits.
- Built in presets are accessible from some applications.
Spotlight Plugin:
- Search for Frames via Keycodes.
- Search for Frames via Timecodes.
- View Header information about image file. Items such as Colorimetric information, Byte packing info, Image depth, Image Size, Transfer method, Project Name, Slate info, etc.
As you can see, there is a lot to this new version.
If you see anything I should consider adding or looking at, please post a note.
I am all ears!

Hello Bob,
I've been trying to make the hardware key work, checked all of the other threads and did everything I could, but still getting the green band.
I need to submit some DPX output to my client and my temporary license is already expired. Can you help me to work this out?
Thanks.

Hi..
For those that have just received their USB License Key, you will need to remove your temporary license file.
You can do this, by deleting:
/Users/<your home>/Library/Preferences/com.gluetools.cineondpxlic.plist
If you don't remove this file, you might end up seeing some "confused" licensing issues, such as a red or green stripe through you images.
Deleting this file should fix any problems.

Some of you have experienced problems with the components, after upgrading to 2.0.1.
In 99% of the cases, the problem is caused by the installer over-writing the files, rather than deleting the originals, first.
So, to fix any issues with the components, do the following:
delete these files:
/Library/QuickTime/DPX.component
/Library/QuickTime/Cineon.component
/Library/Spotlight/DPX.mdimporter
/Library/Spotlight/Cineon.mdimporter
/Library/PreferencePanes/cineondpx.prefPane
and
/Users/your-home/Library/Preferences/com.gluetools.cineondpx .plist
/Users/your-home/Library/Preferences/com.apple.quicktime.plu gin.preferences.plist
Reboot your machine, and then install v2.0.1 (or later).
The components should start working.

Howdy, All..
If you bought a license of CineonDPX 1.00 - 1.14.2 and are upgrading to version 2.0,
You will need to move the old license out of the way.
Quit System Preferences, if it is already running.
you will want to open your Home Directory, and go to:
/Users/yourhomedir/Library/Preferences
and move/trash the file: com.gluetools.cineondpxlic.plist
You can now start up your System Preferences, go to the CineonDPX Preference Pane, and enter in your new license key.
Enjoy!

Hi Everyone,
I have just posted v3.0.15 to address some bugs that had be introduced in v3.0.14
Fixed:
- Crashing while exporting frames
- Crashing while exporting frames with a specific In & Out Point with Compressor
- In & Out Points, while using a custom start frame number, didn't work properly.
- Reelnames are now used from the Device field in the DPX header by default.
- Time Code dropframe fixes.
As always, drop a note to support at gluetools.com if there are any issues.
Thanks!

Hi Everyone,
I've just posted v3.0.6 to the site. This update provides a solid fix for licensing issues. Please update to this version as soon as possible.
Also fixed in this version is a problem where the last 6 lines are black of a frame, if you are on an 8 core Mac. The same fix also fixes frames that have an "odd numbered" height. (2048x1107 for instance).
Performance Improvements have also been added.

I am cropping some DPX sequences in shake and laying them into my online edit. Should I perform a loglin correction in Shake and fileout or should I let Gluetools handle the loglin on FCP import?
UPDATE:
So, I decided to go without the loglin node in Shake. I rendered out my cropped DPX sequence and relinked it to a clip from my sequence. By relinking this clip, it negated the loglin conversion in FCP. All of my previous lin converted clips now appear in log space in FCP. Weird.
UPDATE 2:
By changing the auto-detect to loglin, everything works fine.

I am new to gluetools just installed ver 3.03.
I export DPX's from Redcine.
I can open them in color no problem.
To import into FCP the way it works for me is --> import gluetools dpx --> put the settings ( trying to open wont do anything) so I go to --> import file --> mark the first DPX in the folder and there it is.
if I try to send to color the sequence opens but all media is offline and can not re-link media.
what am I doing wrong? or any other thoughts would be very appreciated.
Thanks.

I have some footage which was shoot on film and later on scanned to 2K DPX files. I had hoped that I could edit on-line but the files are a bit to heavy to get a smooth playback.
I'm wondering if there's an easy way to to edit with the DPX files in a lower resolution and then somehow send the original fullres DPX files together with an XML/project file/EDL to a film effect studio for grading aso?
If this could be done, preferably without rendering time, I would be grateful if someone could tell me how?
I have tried the way "recommended" way through compressor but without luck (the only thing i managed here was to create black dpx files in a lower res).
Regards,
Andy
